The second activity for Chinese New Year is to create your Spring couplet (see greeting cards below). This year the Chinese New Year falls on the same day of Valentine's Day.You can pick either Valentine's Day or Chinese New Year as a topic for your Spring couplet.

Indicating the ability to reach a conclusion or result--可能补语

上个月我们学会了"结果补语" Indicating the result of conclusion of an action,否定句 "沒"

• 我看懂了.--->我沒看懂了.
• 我找到了.--->我沒找到了

1. 今天我们要学一个新的文法 " 可能补语" ---Indicating the ability to reach a conclusion or result. Verb+ 得+ complement.
2. To indicate that  it is not possible to reach a conclusion or result,we use Verb+ 不+ complement.可能补语的否定句是"不"

tip : we learned about the difference between  “没",“不"

“没" uses for past tense “不"uses for present and future tense.

Therefore the  complement of result should use 没 and complement of possibility should use “不"

For example (可能补语 )

1. 走得到:学校就在我家附近,我一定(definitely)走得到.School is near by , I could walk there..Talk about possibility.
2. 听得懂:今天的语法(Grammar point)很难,你听得懂吗?Today's grammar point is rather difficult, Could you understand?)
   

         A :我听得懂.( I could understand. or 我听懂了.I understood)
 
         B :我听不懂.(I could not understand------ you weren't able to understand--- environmental problem, material maybe too advanced or too hard.)

        C :我没听懂.(I didn't understand.----You are able to understand but you did not get it---personal problem-- you are not paying attention or you need to practice more.)

Food for thought

Dinner for four!

Today in class we learned how to order food in a restaurant. For your homework today, look at the dialogue below and create an order for yourself and three friends. You should order approximately 4 dishes for your table, plus some drinks.

Make sure you order enough without going crazy! Also, use the correct 'measure' words for each dish that you order.  Write down an estimate on how much your meal.

The structure 如果.......(的話)

我们今天学了  "如果.......(的話),....就 (or 会)......." 这个句型

 Your Homework today : make  3-5 sentences with "如果...."  - feel free to be very creative in your answers!  Have Fun!

Reall, really complicated and difficult stuff 结果补语

This isn't easy but let's have a go! Take a look at the table below. The words along the top line can take a modifier (in the left-hand column) to make a finished or completed sense to the word.

 For example, "see" is modified with "見" to become "saw". "Search" is modified with "到" to become 'found". By the way "光" can have the same meaning with "完"

Construct four modified words and create a sentence for each that illustrates their use.

The Four Seasons 一年有四个季节

We've been talking about the four seasons in the year. Choose a city and introduce the weather during the four seasons and the activities you might expect to do in each season. For example, in the Summer, you might go swimming or visit the beach.

The picture above talks about the Spring, so what activity might you do in this sort of weather? Write a short description for each season. Make sure you check the typical weather during the year for the city you select.
